We're helping lots of needy people because of your help

Here are some other statistics you may find surprising:

Poverty

  • The poverty rate in the United States has gone down recently, but it's still too high! As of 2016, 12.7% percent of Americans were living below poverty level.

  • Poverty is worst in California, where about one in five are living below poverty level.

  • In Riverside County, where the Mission operates, 15.3% are living below poverty level.

Homelessness

Hunger

  • As of 2016, 9.8% of Riverside County residents  were "food insecure"—meaning they sometimes don't have access to the food they need.
    Source: FeedingAmerica.org

  • That means there are 227,020 people in Riverside County who are at risk for not having enough nutritious food.

  • Of more than 60,000 people surveyed by Feeding America in 2013, 69% had been forced to choose between buying food and paying their utility bills.

  • 66% of those surveyed had to choose between buying food and getting medical care.

Hunger, homelessness and poverty are still serious problems in our affluent society.
At the Riverside City Mission, we're helping to fight them—
with practical compassion and the truth of the gospel.
