Frequently-Asked Questions

How is City Mission Ministries Organized?
The Riverside City Mission is part of City Mission Ministries (CMM), a 501(c)3 organization that also operates missions in San Bernardino and Las Vegas, Nevada.  CMM is govererned by an independent volunteer board of directors. The president/CEO serves as chairman, oversees the head office and staff, and is accountable to the board. Each local City Mission is a subsidiary of City Mission Ministries, a 501(c) 3 church organization. The local director of each mission is responsible for its staffing and successful operation.

What is the leadership model?
We strive to emulate the biblical model of plural leadership, each member being coequal in function. The style of leadership is to serve God, others, and each other as servant leaders.

What is the decision-making model?
We follow a consensus-driven, shared decision-making model. Major decisions affecting multiple functional areas are made collaboratively by all affected parties. Each staff member is recognized in his or her unique sphere of expertise as the primary authority source in that area. The president/CEO is responsible for insuring that operational teams function within the policies of the board of directors, and retains the authority to make final decisions should the team not be able to do so.

How do your mobile outreaches work?
We partner with local churches to provide hot meals, clothing, personal counseling, devotional services, and referrals to needy folks in our communities. All hot meals and supplies are transported from our distribution center in Highland. The local church supplies volunteers who help serve meals, distribute clothing, participate in devotional services, offer personal counseling, and help set up and tear down. Each day the Mobile Mission operates from a different local church site. This way, the City Mission is able to serve a broader population over a wide area.

What are your greatest needs?
Glad you asked! Here are a few things we urgently need:

  • Donated food (non-perishable and perishable such as eggs and milk)
  • Paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, 8-oz cups)
  • Cleaning supplies (dish soap, bleach)
  • Hygiene supplies (small containers of soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste)
  • Cargo van

Are you supported by the government?
No. There are often strings attached to government funds that would inhibit our ability to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with our guests. So we do not accept government funds of any kind—city, county, state, or federal.

Are you affiliated with a local church?
No. We are an independent faith-based Christian organization. As such, we cooperate and partner with churches of all denominations.
