About Us



The Riverside City Mission is a Christian not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization.      

     Our mission is to provide opportunities for homeless and destitute men and women and the poor and needy to transform their lives.


     Our strategy is to feed the hungry, help the homeless, provide food boxes for the poor and needy and referrals to long-term residential discipleship and rehabilitation programs for all who are in need.


     Our method is to provide holiday hot meal outreach events, Family Food Box distribution, preparation and delivery of pre-cooked meals for shut-ins and home bound seniors, clothing distribution, providing household items from our "Blessingdales" free stores, life-skills workshops, work opportunities, job training,  personal counseling, chapel services, Bible studies, family restoration, and referrals to other service providers.


     Our commitment is motivated by Jesus Christ’s call to serve the poor and needy.


     Our values are commitment to help the homeless and poor with respect, integrity, honesty, stewardship and serving with dignity.


1. Who is City Mission Ministries?
     The Riverside City Mission is a part of a larger organization called City Mission Ministries (CMM). CMM is a Christian non-profit organization which operates City Missions in Riverside and San Bernardino, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

2. What is City Mission Ministries’ Mission Statement?
     City Mission Ministries is a Christian not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide administrative, fundraising and programmatic support and oversight for the member missions enabling them to grow and develop as local ministries.  The focus is on serving seniors, low-income families and the homeless by meeting their needs and by equipping them for a life of service to God and society.  This is accomplished by offering:

  • Hot meals and sack lunches for the homeless
  • Family Food Boxes for needy families
  • Take out meals for shut-ins and home bound seniors
  • Clothing distribution
  • Blessingdales free household items
  • Hygiene kits, blankets, jackets, Bags of Hope for the Homeless
  • Work Therapy opportunities for the mentally impaired
  • Referrals to other programs, like residential rehabilitation, women's shelter and domestic violence.

3.  How is a City Mission Ministries Organized?
     An independent volunteer Board of Directors governs City Mission Ministries; the CMM President/CEO serves as chairman and is accountable to the Board. The President/CEO oversees the CMM head office and staff. Each local City Mission is a subsidiary of City Mission Ministries, a 501(c) 3 Church organization. The local City Mission Director is responsible for the staffing and successful operation of their respective City Mission within established CMM procedures.

4. Leadership Model.
     The CMM Management team strives to emulate the biblical model of plurality of leadership, each member being co-equal in function. The style of leadership is to serve God, others and each other. The CMM Management team members are: Rev. Mike Edwards, Jackie Davis, Corrie Keener and Gifford Claiborne.

5. Decision-Making Model
     The CMM staff operates with a consensus driven, shared decision-making model. Major decisions affecting functional areas are made collaboratively by all parties affected. Each member is recognized in their unique area of expertise as the primary authority source in that area. The President/CEO is responsible for insuring that operational teams function within the policies of the Board of Directors.

6. What Support Functions will City Mission Ministries offer to member City Missions?
     The following functional support services are provided to all CMM member missions.

  • Development: Mass fundraising services and guidance for major donor solicitation and public relations.
  • Accounting: Budgets, income and expense statements, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, financial audits.
  • Personnel: Policies and procedures for hiring, performance appraisal, termination, workers comp, and benefits administration.
  • Facilities: Property acquisition, negotiation of leases, set-up and support of property maintenance, insurance.
  • Businesses: Set-up and operation of related income-generating businesses, such as Thrift Stores, and vocational learning programs.

     Partnering churches host community outreach meals, distribute Family Food Boxes, and offer personal counseling.  They also provide chapel services, Bible studies, clothing distribution and Gift-In-Kind drop off points.
